Drew Barrymore’s Thanksgiving Celebration

E.T. star Drew Barrymore and her ex-husband Will Kopelman are set to celebrate Thanksgiving together with their daughters Olive, 5, and Frankie, 3. The Santa Clarita Diet star, 42, and Kopelman split more than 18 months ago, but they’ve maintained a united front for their growing girls.

The friendly exes are keeping up with their family traditions this holiday season in New York City.

We do a whole thing at the house,” the Blended star told PEOPLE of their Thanksgiving plans.

She added: “I always spend it with my daughters, their father, grandparents, [Will’s sister] Jill [Kargman], my sister, the cousins. We have a whole Kopelman-Kargman tradition.”

And it sounds like the friendly family might do some exploring over the holidays.

We might take a trip – not on an airplane,” Barrymore shared. Travel during Thanksgiving is so hard, so anything that’s a drive away.”

The Wedding Singer star moved to New York from California with Will and their children in 2014.

I’m really just getting to know the East Coast,” said the mom-of-two. I just went to Vermont and rode a bike for 15 miles and huffed and puffed until I thought I was going to die. I’m just exploring.”

She added: “I’m not an aficionado. If it was the state of California I could tell you everything, but [in] New York I’m like lost. I’m new here!

In February, Barrymore opened up on The Ellen DeGeneres Show about peacefully co-parenting her daughters with her ex.

“It’s interesting, I saw this article the other day written about me — and I never see articles written about me — and it was like, ‘My Modern Family.’ And I was like, ‘I like that; that has a nice ring to it,’ ” Barrymore said.

She added: “I so wanted to raise kids in this ultra-traditional way and do everything so the polar opposite of my experience.”

The mom-of-two is sure to walk the walk and talk the talk with her modern family.

“It really is about the tone you set. And you can talk until you’re blue in the face, but kids watch what you do every single day of your life, all day long, and that behavior and that example and that love and community and honesty is what’s making everything feel safe for my kids,” the actress shared.

Regardless of their split, it’s all about family for the single mom.

“That’s really the intention I had as a parent was, ‘How do my kids have this incredible sense of freedom inside their heart?’ ” she shared. ” ‘Cause they know I’ve got them and their dad’s got them and Grammy and Poppy — I’m wearing Grammy’s necklace right now — their cousins and [Will’s sister Jill Kargman].”

She added: “I got two families. I went from like zero to two, and it’s a miracle and a blessing. And we do it in a way that I think a lot of other people are probably doing it too. And sometimes, again, the road is different than what you try to make it or what you expected and you just figure it out and you figure it out with grace.”

While the actress did not issue a public announcement of their split, Barrymore filed for divorce in July 2016 and the divorce was granted on Aug. 3, 2016, after 4 years of marriage.
