As tabloid fodder for nearly two decades, Jennifer Aniston, who celebrates her 45th birthday Tuesday, proved she can take a joke when it comes to perennial rumors about her personal life.

While conducting an interview with author and activist Gloria Steinem for The Makers Conference in Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif., the actress made a pointed comment.

“The public has a great interest in our personal lives,” Aniston said. “I know you’ve come up against this, and I certainly have too – where being a woman and our value and our worth is basically associated with our marital status or whether or not we have procreated.”

Responded the childless Steinem, “Well, I guess we’re in deep s–––!”

“That’s what I thought,” Aniston said with a laugh. “Just wanted to make sure that was the case. That we are, in fact, in deep s–––.”

It looked to be a work-a-day birthday week for Aniston and her fiancé of 18 months, Justin Theroux, who on Tuesday was shooting his HBO series The Leftovers in New York.

Peter Sarsgaard and Ramona: Snowy Walk

*EXCLUSIVE* Peter Sarsgaard take his daughter Ramona to school

Peter Sarsgaard and Ramona, 7, held hands while walking to school in Brooklyn, NY on Wednesday morning (January 29). The actor was recently in South Africa filming for his new movie Ladygrey.

Maggie Gyllenhaal has also been busy with work. This month she was at the Sundance Film Festival to promote her new movie Frank.

In a past interview the actress shared her feelings on being mom to Ramona and Gloria, 1 1/2.

“Once you’re a mom, there are like these little sort of secret things you know. You know that in your pocket you’ll find a bag of Cheerios. … Little secrets that you just wouldn’t know otherwise. … This kind of way you can kind of fight for something you otherwise wouldn’t have known. Also, there’s this whole spectrum of feelings that I just didn’t have until I had my girls.”

19th Annual Critics' Choice Awards - ArrivalsBRADLEY Cooper‘s mom is meddling in his love life!

The actor’s mom is ready to tie the knot with girlfriend Suki Waterhouse, but mother Gloria is threatening to boycott the wedding!

When Bradley mentioned the idea of marriage to his mom, she apparently hit the roof.

“Gloria told Bradley: ‘Well, I hope you plan a very small wedding because I won’t be there!’” a source told American tabloid the National Enquirer.

“It’s heartbreaking for Bradley, because he’s crazy about Suki and wants to spend the rest of his life with her.

“But at the same time, he’s a mama’s boy and it really dampens his enthusiasm that Gloria isn’t on board with it.

“Gloria very much wants to see Bradley happy and settled down.

“But she doesn’t think Suki is the girl for him.”

How Did Jennifer Hudson Handle Playing The Worst Mom In Mister & Pete?

The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete is a heart breaker. It follows two boys, 13-year-old Mister (Skylan Brooks) and 9-year-old Pete (Ethan Dizon) who are left on their own in public housing one blistering hot NYC summer, facing constant hunger and the looming threats of nasty drug dealers and a group home with a terrible rep. It’s all clearly the fault of their drug-addicted prostitute mothers, one of whom is played with gritty realism by Jennifer Hudson. If it’s hard for us to watch, what was it like for Hudson, mother of 4-year-old David Daniel Otunga Jr., to act?

“It’s unimaginable,” Hudson told us of being a mother like Gloria, who lets her son see her shoot heroin and turn tricks in a restaurant bathroom. “I had those moments, like, ‘Wow, this is real.’ I couldn’t dare do that. Everything she sent her son through, or how she left him alone, or how she even talked to him, treated him. It was difficult for me as a mom. I was like, ‘Oh my god, I shouldn’t be saying this to a child!’ ”

Most of the film (which opens Friday, October 11) follows Mister and Pete in the aftermath of Gloria’s arrest. It could have looked like an urban version of Home Alone if it weren’t for the very believable, scary moments when starvation or worse seem possible. Gradually, we see it dawn on the boys that their mothers might not be coming back to take care of them.

Alicia Keys, who executive produced the movie and wrote its score, had poetic way of describing Gloria’s struggle with motherhood.

“It’s extremely difficult to watch, because you see how she’s not only hurting herself, but definitely hurting her son,” Keys told us. “And you wish that she wouldn’t, but she does, and she wishes she wouldn’t but she does, and he wishes that she wouldn’t but she does. And that’s part of the complexities of life.”
