Justin Bieber Compares Himself to Princess Diana After L.A. Fender-Bender with Paps

Justin Bieber‘s driving habits often seem like outtakes from the Fast and Furious franchise, but the wayward pop star says his vehicular bad breaks put him in league with another icon: the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

Early Tuesday afternoon, Bieber, 20, was driving his red Ferrari in Los Angeles. When the singer noticed paparazzi trailing him in a Prius, reports TMZ, he allegedly slammed on the brakes – causing his pursuers to crash into him.

No injuries were reported, but Bieber’s crimson sports car did get a little ding.

The Canadian heartthrob – who has amassed an armada of fancy rides and his share of speeding tickets to boot – was not happy, Tweeting, “We should have learned from the death of Princess Diana.”

Recall that Diana and her boyfriend, Harrods department store heir Dodi al-Fayed, were killed when their chauffeured car spun out of control while being chased by paparazzi in Paris in 1997. (Bieber was 3 years old at the time.)

Beliebers and critics alike might agree the singer is living his life like a candle in the wind. But comparing himself to the beloved princess and humanitarian might be a bit of a stretch, especially considering Diana was never involved in an altercation at a Dave & Buster’s, as Bieber was recently when he lunged at a fan, allegedly seeking to snatch the person’s phone after the unidentified party had snapped pics and video of Bieber and Selena Gomez.

God save the Biebs.

Miley Cyrus is defending her Video Music Awards date after reports surfaced that the young homeless man is wanted by police in his native Oregon.

The pop star made waves when she had Jesse Helt give her acceptance speech, using it as a platform to shed light on homelessness in Los Angeles.

“I’ve survived in shelters all over,” he said at Sunday’s award show as Cyrus cried. “Though I may have been invisible to you in the street, I have the same dreams as many of you.”

Court documents obtained by PEOPLE show a more complicated story. Authorities issued an arrest warrant for Helt in November 2011 after he violated his probation for the third time, handing him a six-month suspended jail sentence if he tripped up again.

The probation stems from an incident in October 2010, when he tried to rob the home of a man who he said sold him bad marijuana. Helt pleaded guilty and was convicted of attempted burglary and criminal mischief.

As of November 2011, Helt owed more than $1,800 to the courts and needed to complete 48 more hours of community service.

But Cyrus says their cause shouldn’t be cast aside because of Helt’s history. She flew him home to reunite with his family and is helping him with legal support, a source close to the situation tells PEOPLE. And in a series of Tweets on Tuesday, she lashed out at headlines focused on his past “instead of covering the issue of youth homelessness.”

“People who are homeless have lived very hard lives. Jesse included,” she posted. “I hope that this can be the start of a national conversation about youth homelessness and how to end it. Does looking down upon the homeless help people excuse their inaction?”

In an interview with PEOPLE, Helt’s mother, Linda Helt, criticized people for “twisting things” and commended Cyrus’s campaign with her son.

“They want people to send in even just $5 to help them get off the street, not aid their behavior,” she said. “Jesse and Miley want to help and have a sincere desire to get out and do something and turn around and help others.”

Celebrities like Britney Spears and Madonna are also supporting Cyrus’s push, donating to the “Wrecking Ball” singer’s Prizeo campaign for My Friend’s Place, a center for homeless youth in Hollywood.

As their nuptials near, Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross had something else to celebrate this week: his 26th birthday.

The couple, along with the Hunger Games: Mockingjay actor’s mom Diana Ross, fêted the star at STK Downtown in New York on Tuesday night.

“They were excited and talking about Ashlee and Evan’s upcoming wedding,” a source says, adding that the groom-to-be was filming a movie next door to the restaurant. “Everyone was in great spirits.”

The group of 16 feasted on lobsters and filets while sipping on Macallan and Cokes.

Though his superstar mother left the festivities early, Simpson, 29, and Ross continued their evening of love and laughs.

“Evan and Ashlee were kissing each other non-stop all night,” the source adds.

The worst thing to ever happen to James Costello was also the best.

The Boston Marathon bombing survivor – who was famously photographed in the wake of the April 15 attack, burned and with his clothes hanging in tatters – has married Krista D’Agostino, the nurse he met in rehab after the tragedy.

The couple celebrated their union on Saturday at the Hyatt Regency in Boston, where they “danced the night away,” Emily Sharp, a rep for the hotel, told the New York Post.

“It was an elegant, Nantucket type of theme, which is one of the couple’s favorite places, a nod to their cherished memories together, a real fairytale vision,” Sharp added. “It was just so much fun.”

Wedding planner Rachael Gross told The Boston Globe that the pair, who chose John Legend’s “All of Me” as the song for their first dance, went for a nautical theme, “but without the literal nautical elements.”

“It was such a true representation of their character, their style and their love,” shared Gross. “Everyone was soaring, soaring.”

Sam Adams Brewery donated a special “Brewlywed Ale” to the event, which included about 150 guests.

Costello, 31, proposed to D’Agostino, also 31, eight months after meeting her at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, where he was transferred after undergoing multiple surgeries at Massachusetts General Hospital following the attack.

“April 15 was one of the worst days of my life. I soon wondered why and for what reason this has happened,” he wrote in a Facebook post in December. “I now realize why I was involved in the tragedy. It was to meet my best friend, and the love of my life.”
