Who’s looking at you, Lupo? Little Prince George, that’s who.

The 8-month-old prince glances at the family pet, as he is held in a window at Kensington Palace by proud mum Kate.

The new family shot has been released by the Duchess of Cambridge and her husband, Prince William as they make their last preparations for a three-week tour of New Zealand and Australia.

Echoing a photo taken by Kate’s dad, Michael Middleton, last summer, George is clearly relaxed alongside the family pet in their regal surroundings.

Photographer Jason Bell, who also took the pictures of the family at George’s christening in October, aimed his lens at the family as they sat in a window seat at their home, Apartment 1a, at Kensington Palace in mid-March.

The photo came as William and Kate, along with Prince Harry, attended the wedding of friend Lucy Meade on Saturday. The royal couple left George at home as they partied with other close friends including Tom and Missy van Straubenzee.

William and Kate wanted the informal image to be released a week before they leave for New Zealand. There’s a precedent: The couple also released an official portrait before they kicked off their North American tour back in 2011.

The picture also follows a tradition established by William’s parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, who posed with the infant prince when they headed Down Under in 1983.

The portrait serves as a timely memento to mark Kate’s first Mother’s Day on Sunday (the U.K. celebrates on an earlier day than the U.S.) and gives the world a little pictorial update on the prince.

Now crawling, George has a couple of teeth poking through, and, though fair-haired like his father at the same age, he has darker eyebrows and the eye color of his Middleton side.

The easygoing tone of the shot was enhanced by the couple’s dressed-down look. William, 31, was in khakis and open-necked shirt, while Kate, 32, wore a cream blouse and casual trousers.

The upcoming trip to Australia and New Zealand, a palace source tells PEOPLE, provided “a perfect opportunity to do [the portrait]”, given “an awful lot of interest” before the couple sets off on their first tour with their baby.

Royal watchers can get their next glimpse of George on April 7, when he will be carried from a plane arriving in Wellington, New Zealand.

Cressida Bonas Laughs at Royal Family?

Cressida Bonas Laughs at Royal Family?

Prince Harry Visits Harlem RBI in New York City on May 14, 2013CRESSIDA Bonas has been seen laughing at jokes about the Royal Family during a recent night out.

According to Britain’s Mail on Sunday, Prince Harry‘s girlfriend was at London’s O2 on Monday night to enjoy a performance by Jack Whitehall, who was criticized for making a series of crude jokes about the Queen and Prince Phillip during an appearance on Channel 4’s Big Fat Quiz of the Year.

“Cressida was there with Jack’s sister Molly and looked like she was having a whale of a time,” a source said.

“She was laughing along all night.”

Meanwhile, sources say Cressida makes Harry chase her!

“No one can believe how Cressida has tames Prince Harry,” says an insider.

“It would have been unthinkable a year ago.

“She played a very clever game to land her prince: she let him do all the chasing.

“She blew hot and cold and kept changing her mind about whether she could handle being part of the royal circus. It just made Harry even keener.”

Shortly after the pair were set up in 2012 by Princess Eugenie, Harry was photographed playing strip billiards in Vegas — and Cressida reportedly dumped him. That was a wake-up call.

“He’s calmed down a lot since then. Harry no longer wants to be seen as the Playboy Prince. He wants to prove to Cressida how serious he is about her,” said the source.

“He put her before his beloved Army career. Cressida has been granted security clearance to Kensington Palace by the Queen, an unprecedented honor for a royal girlfriend. Cressida spends much of her time there.”

Police Hope for Break in Missing Sisters Case – 39 Years Later

Police Hope for Break in Missing Sisters Case – 39 Years Later

Sheila and Katherine Lyon

Montgomery County, Md., Police Department/AP

For nearly 40 years, the disappearance of sisters Sheila, 12, and Katherine Lyon, 10, last seen near a shopping mall, has baffled the girls’ family and the surrounding community of Kensington, Md.

But there may finally be a break in the case. Detectives are hoping to gather more evidence that might link the disappearance to Lloyd Lee Welch, 57, a currently incarcerated sex offender who once worked as a carnival ride operator.

“The Lyons are an all-American family who were so devastated after the girls disappeared,” former next-door neighbor Winifred Leesnitzer, 84, tells PEOPLE. “Hopefully the case will be solved now so their daughters can finally rest in peace.”

Police on Tuesday said Welch was at the Wheaton Plaza mall on March 25, 1975, the same day the girls vanished, and that he seemed to pay close attention to them.

“We need everyone who may know something to come forward,” Steve Vogt, FBI Baltimore Division Special Agent in Charge, said Tuesday. “It might be enough to put the pieces of this puzzle together.”

The Lyon family issued a statement thanking the community for never giving up. “March 25th will mark 39 years since Kate and Sheila were taken from our family,” the statement says. “We are grateful for any information the public can provide to help bring this story to its conclusion.”

The girls’ parents, Jon, 74, a former radio personality, and Mary Lyon, 74, a homemaker, still reside the same family home in Kensington. The sisters’ older brother, Jay Lyon, who was 15 at the time and reportedly one of the last to see them alive, went on to become an officer with the local police department.

“I suspect the loss of his sisters was the motivation for Jay to join the police force,” retired Montgomery County Police detective Harry Geehreng tells PEOPLE. “I think it changed his life forever. Over time, I think the Lyon family just withdrew and tried to grieve in private. I think they just tried to return to normal life as best they could.”

While Welch is not due for release until 2027, a hearing is scheduled for July on his request for early release, the Washington Post reported.

Police say that Welch, 18 at the time, became a more obvious potential suspect over the years as he got picked up for other offenses.

When Welch was arrested for burglary in 1977, his mug shot resembled an old police sketch of a stranger described by a girlfriend of the Lyon sisters who saw a man following the three of them that day. When detectives recently took a fresh look at the case a few months ago, Welch “jumped out at us,” said Assistant Montgomery County Police Chief Russ Hamill.

A niece of Welch’s tells the Post that Welch admits to being at Wheaton Plaza that day – but denies any involvement in the girls’ disappearance.

“The only thing he said he did was walk around the mall,” Debbie Roe, 38, of Dover, Del., tells the Post. “I think they need to look elsewhere. He doesn’t know where the girls are.”

Kate Middleton Angers Camilla Parker-Bowles

Royal Film Performance 2013: "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom" - ArrivalsKATE Middleton has gone and riled up Camilla Parker-Bowles!

A source says Kate and Camilla had a heated showdown, and Camilla — who was drunk — stormed out!

“Camilla was furious,” a source said. “She stormed out of the palace screeching at her husband Prince Charles, ‘I’ll destroy you and the rest of your family’.”

In this week’s Globe magazine, they detail what Kate said to trigger Camilla’s rage and more about the ugly, $350 million divorce facing Charles and the Royal Family.

Meanwhile, Kate and Prince William are looking for a new nanny to take on their tour of New Zealand and Australia.

The royal couple’s current nanny, Jessie Webb – who looked after Prince William when he was a child – has reached the end of her contract.

Webb, 71, came out of retirement to look after Prince George on the condition that she would work only for three months. She is still at Kensington Palace and William and Kate are keen to retain her services, but they are discreetly looking for extra help for the month-long trip this spring.

“It took a lot of persuading to get Jessie to take the job in the first place, but she loves William and wanted to help out,” a source said.

“I can’t imagine that she will want to be traveling around the world at her age. If she does, she will need an assistant.

“hey need round-the-clock help for George if he joins them. Kate might also want to think about taking a dresser or a lady’s maid. It sounds grand, but it’s actually very practical. The Queen wouldn’t dream of traveling overseas without a lady-in-waiting.”
