UFC Fight for the Troops 2 Preview: DeMarques Johnson vs. Mike Guymon – Bleacher Report

This fight will be special for Johnson, who is a military veteran himself, having served four years in the Army and four years in the National Guard. Johnson told MMAWeekly, “I’m excited.  It’s a different kind of environment fighting for troops. I think it’s something the troops will appreciate more than your casual fan.  It’s provided me a weird kind of calm.”

Johnson will enter the fight with a UFC record of 2-2 and an overall MMA record of 11-8.  Johnson is coming off a second round TKO loss to Matt Riddle back in August of 2010. Johnson is feeling pressure to win this fight, “There is pressure coming off an ass whippin’ like the one that Matt gave me.  I do find myself under the gun. However, it’s not like Dana is taking dudes out back after they get a beat down and shooting them; it’s not like it would be a lifetime ban or anything like that. Fighters are replaceable, it sucks, but it’s the truth. My job is to not get replaced and should I get my pink slip, I’ll fight my way back in.”

Guymon enters the fight with a 1-2 UFC record and a 12-4-1 MMA record. He too is coming off a loss in his last fight, submitting to Daniel Roberts at UFC 121.

Guymon, a former “King of the Cage” Welterweight champion was 11-2-1 before joining the UFC with his only losses coming to Diego Sanchez and Pat Healy. Guymon will need a strong showing in this fight to prove he belongs in the UFC.
